COMMENTS:
Padgett is about 9.5 miles southwest of Olney, TX on S.H. 79. My dad was born in Padgett in 1914, and attended the community school there. He and my mother took me to a couple of community reunions there as late as the very early 1960's. REMAINS: The cemetary is all that remains. |
Padgett got it's name from I. B. Padgett who first arrived in the area in 1875. In it's prime, Padgett had a gin, a few small businesses, a post office, four or five churches, and a two teacher school. In 1944 Padgett School #28 was consolidated into the Olney Schools. Sometime around the late '60's or early 70's, the town disappeared for good. Submitted by: Allen Beaver |
