Originally named Stampede Springs for the natural spring water that was discovered there. The settlement was started aprox. 1878. Two years later there was a school, church, gen. store, and cemetery, The post office opened in 1893 and was renamed Shannon. at it's peak in the 1920's there were over 110 residents. The town started to dwindle around the 1960's. Now there's probably a handful of people still there. My grandfather was born and raised there. My mother remembers visiting the country store when she was a child in the 1950's. I've been only a couple of times, but it's been a long time. The coastal fields are lush and beautiful.
