Coal City
Coal City in Carbon County, Utah is no longer accessible. It is within the Gordon Creek Wildlife Management Area and gated. You can see one of the buildings from the gate but there is no (legal) access otherwise. Nick Britton

Coal City, originally named Oak Springs Bench and later Cedar Mesa Ranch, was first settled in 1885. Its 8000 foot elevation made farming hard and ranching too due to the wildlife. Then coal was discovered, but never really took off due to the towns distance from the nearest railroad. Then, just before the great depression, the town was reborn as Great Western and coal mining started immediately. A railroad was built into town and a new schoolhouse was built. Unfortunately, the great depression ruined the town. Today, there are a few buildings left at the site.
