No Residents. Mine shaft, various remains of cabins and foundations can be found on the way up to Hoyt's Peak. Dirt Road is only open to vehicles June 15th to Sept 15th. Snowmobile access in Winter. Hoyt's Peak is at an elevation of 10,198 ft. Access can be found from Marion, UT. There is a dirt road heading toward the mountains on the north side of Weller Snowmobile Repair in Marion, Utah. Supposedly an old spanish mine (circa 1796). Reports that a 1930 Geology class from the University of Utah tried to expand the second mine opening but the blasting they did, sealed the second mine entrance instead. If you reach the mine opening you can see where someone may be actively mining as there are pots, pans, and childrens hand drawn pictures at the Mine Shaft entrance. Submitted by: Chris Chrysler |
