STATELINE |

NAME: Stateline COUNTY: Iron ROADS: 2WD Grid #: 7 CLIMATE: snow in winter, hot in summer BEST TIME TO VISIT: Summer |
COMMENTS:
I have never been there personally,
but my brother went in early spring and reported several standing
structures. The best way to get there is to turn north on a good
2wd dirt road in Modena on highway 56. Then drive into Hamlin
Valley and turn West toward the Nevada border on a 4wd road marked
as Stateline road. REMAINS: Several standing structures |
Gold an Silver were discovered in Stateline Canyon in 1894 and soon a town sprung up. Then in 1896 the Ophir mine was discovered and a large population boom took place. By 1903 there were approximately 300 peple living here and there were many general stores. But as with most mining towns the ore started to play out around 1910 and by 1918 there were only 18 people left. Minor mining activity has continued in the area ever since.
