Blewett Pass, or Blewett, is the name given to a string of small towns and settlements that were located on highway 97, which runs between highways 2 and 10 east of Seattle. Much remains to be seen in what was a locale where thousand-dollar gold nuggets were common. The most notable relic is the Blewett Stamp Mill where several hundred men worked during the 1880s processing gold ore. The mill ceased operations in 1905 when the main vein of ore quit. There is still gold to be had but the value of gold today would not pay for operations. Submitted by Henry Chenowith.
