Off Route 33 east of Elkins, turn left at Alpena. Approx 6 miles REMAINS: Old fireplace from a cabin, foundations, log roads, railroad grade. |
This town was a logging community, established by immigrants in the early 1900's looking for work, when the timbering was done, the train stopped running and everyone moved on to the next place for work. Later in the 40's the CCC's planted pine tree's and the area was turned into a campground and can still be used (good fishing too). The area is managed by the WV DNR. Submitted by: Kathy Messenger |
