Bear River was originaly set up as a lumber mill in the mid to late 1800s. Lumber was brought down by wagons from the High Uintah Mountains. in 1881 the Railroad built a spur line from Evanston to Bear River. The Army used this town as a fort for a little while. but in 1896 people started to move to Evanston and other towns. the final blow to the town came in 1900 when a fire dystoried the entire town.
