NAME: Lewiston COUNTY: Fremont ROADS: 2WD GRID: 5 CLIMATE: Snow in winter, moderate summers. BEST TIME TO VISIT: Summer. |
COMMENTS: No
residents. On private property and town site now fenced in. Just
two buildings remain--the old Gustin store building and an old
livery building. REMAINS: Two buildings and foundations otherwise, mill site 1/2 mile distant along Strawberry Creek. |
Site on Strawberry Creek was
site of a Pony Express Station in 1861. Town founded in mid-1870's--gold,
silver, some copper ore found here. People lived here into the
1890's but the mines played out, though some would-be miner's
remained in the hills nearby until the late 1970's. Main families
were the Nickersons and Gustins. SUBMITTED BY: Jean Mathisen |
