No residents. BLM owns land--buildings
are not restored but are propped up by BLM. Town dates to 1867-68
(sister "city" of Atlantic City and South Pass City).
Nature trail with signs and register by BLM, cemetery with fenced
area. On Ft. Stambaugh loop road 3-1/2 miles from Atlantic City) REMAINS: Several buildings, including old bakery moved in from Ft. Stambaugh; also bldg. at Miner's Delight mine. |
Mainstay of town was always the Miner's Delight Mine. Original mine found by Jonathan Pugh. P.O. maintained for many years by James Kime. Town started 1867-68; rebounded in 1890's and again in Great Depression. Currently deserted. Calamity Jane there as a girl; Comstock who found the Comstock lode also at Miner's Delight for a time. Main characters in town's history would be "Uncle" Jimmy Kime. Book "South Pass 1868" by James Chisholm gives many details about Miner's Delight and Chisholm's visit in 1868.
