COMMENTS:
On state hiwy 19 SW of Weston (a ghost town in it's on right) which is west of Hamilton. Scattered populace still occupy this community. Free running spring still functional with clear, cold, freestone water. Two churches, one Missionary Baptist the other a Freewill Baptist are still there across hiwy 19 from the very large Barnsville cemetary. REMAINS: Churches, cemetery and scattered residents. |
I do not think there was ever a post office there. My grandpa operated a blacksmith shop for many years and there was one grocery store. Mostly the community was built around the churches and cemetery. My maternal grandparents are buried there along with most of my mother's family. The Third Sunday in May is always celebrated as "decoration day" and many friends and relatives still attend. Submitted by: H h colvin |
