CARROLTON

NAME: Carrolton
COUNTY: pickens
ROADS: 2WD
GRID: 5
CLIMATE: Hot in summer, rarely snow in winter
BEST TIME TO VISIT: anytime
COMMENTS: This is pretty strange. There is something in this window. My husband and I live in north Alabama and visited Carrolton on a trip home from Mobile. It can be seen. We were there during the day, but you can bet I wouldn't stand out in the dark of night to see him.
REMAINS: ..
1873 a freed slave was accused of burning the old Pickens County courthouse. He was being held in the courthouse and was struck by lightening while looking out a third story window. His face can be seen peering through the pane. The glass has been replaced many times and has been cleaned with with everything from soap to gasoline. Still, you can see his face. On stormy nights, when lightening strikes, you can see him standing there..body and all. Submitted by: April Risner
