About 45 mi. west of Memphis Tn. on I-40. The main part of town is about a mile south of I-40. The town is well populated now with 950 people more or less. Originally the town was a center for crosstie buying because the Rock Island Railroad ran thru the town. It was also a ginning center having two gins operating full time.It is claimed that Palestine is the oldest town in the county. It was a center for the country folk to meet and do their trading on the weekends and enjoyed prosperity for many years. Several business' still thrive there and Palestine is a great place to live and raise kids. The tie yard is gone and so are the gins. At one time the town enjoyed the services of Drug Stores, Bank, Movie theatre, etc. Very few of the original buildings remain. Submitted by: H H Colvin
