Burke's Station was established as a stop on the Butterfield Overland Stage route in 1858. When the Butterfield stoped operating, the site was purchased by King Woolsey who managed to get a post office located there from 1894 to 1898 (under the new name Alpha for unkown reasons). When the railroad came, the town died.
