Dosoris Cox discovered the mine in 1881 and named it for his boyhood home. Over $500,000 was produced in silver and a stage line began running to Prescott. A post office was opened in July 1883. A 30 burro pack train hauled ore to Howells and Walker. Only 100 feet below the surface the ore played out and so did Cox.
