Curtiss or Arizona City had a post office from 1891 to 1895. Curtis was discovered in the 1880's by "Uncle" Billy Gavin and Theodore W. Boggs near the banks of Big Bug Creek. Phelps Dodge purchased the claims and constructed a smelter which began operating in 1889. The mines played out and the company closed down in 1893. Then a mine promoter fraudulently promoted the site again in 1899 and the town was renamed Arizona City. The mines were worked sporadically until 1907. Today, nothing remains.
