RICHMOND BASIN

NAME: Richmond Basin
COUNTY: Gila County
ROADS: 4WD
LEGAL INFO: 1
CLIMATE: Warm winter, hot summer
BEST TIME TO VISIT: All year around
COMMENTS: Take SR 88 (SR 188) from Miami-Globe in direction to Payson. After about 4 miles follow the old road, not the new, pass the ranch (on right) and take FR 219 witch is Horseshoe bend Wash. After driving in sandy wash for about 4 miles, take right fork, witch is FR 220. Follow this road until end. Only for 4 WD drive or on horse back. Be careful when you walk around. There are open mines and if you fall down, you stay there for ever.
REMAINS: Ruins, collapsed shaft and houses, one old truck and trailer.
Richmond Basin was silver town grounded in 1890 and lived until 1925-1930. There were about 1000 people. There are many remains from the mining time and one collapsed house. About 2 miles from the town (just follow the road) you will find one old truck and trailer standing there. There is still air in the tires. To get to the Richmond Basin is not easy, but for the people who love nature is beautiful trip. If you go there, give you a loot of time and take it easy. Be very careful if you walking around because there is a loot of open mines who are 300-400 feet deep. If you fall down, you will stay there for ever. Submitted by: Bobby Zlatevski
