Located at the head of Cunningham Gulch, Howardsville was one of the largest and most prosperous of its time. Its first big strike was in 1874 by the Bullion City Company and the town was named after the Company. Later that same year the name was changed. As the mines in the area played out, most of the people moved to nearby Silverton and in 1939, Howardsville lost its post office. Today there are still a few residents in the area.
