NAME: Old Carson COUNTY: Hinsdale ROADS: 4WD! GRID: - CLIMATE: Snow in Winter BEST TIME TO VISIT: Late July/August |
COMMENTS:
You'd need a snowmobile in the winter. Is located on the Colorado Trail and the Continental Divide. REMAINS: A few cabins without roofs. |
Definitely one of the most inaccessible camps in Colorado. Old Carson is located up and over the mountain (south) of the more modern Carson. Elevation is over 12,000 feet making it one of the highest camps in Colorado but also one in the most scenic location. It is thought that the town of Carson started first on the south side of the mountain where these ruins are located and then the newer one was built on the north side along with a wagon road to Lake City.
