Turning into a resort area. REMAINS: Current Mining . |
So many miners were crowded out of the Leadville region during its boom days, the only other alternative was to prospect elsewhere. Redcliff was the result along with a number of other new mining camps and good ore was discovered on Battle and Horn Mountains. The town became the largest of the many camps in the area, which was populated enough to become a county. Redcliff became the county seat of the newly formed Eagle County. Redcliff was a regal town with many thriving businesses. There were five hotels, a post office, a newspaper, schools, and even an opera house. There is still some mining activity in the area and the prospects of Redcliff becoming a resort center look good.Submitted by Henry Chenoweth. |
