| Acton was established by a community of Englishmen in 1884. The town, located two miles east of Lakeland existed from 1884 to 1894. The great freeze of 1894 - 1895 destroyed the community with most of the population of 200 scattering to other areas. Apparantely the villagers were traditionally British in dress and action. Polo and fox hunting were an important part of the culture. The town supported a hotel, sawmill, stores and a church. Submitted by: Mike Woodfin |
