BRYANT

NAME: Bryant
COUNTY: Palm Beach
ROADS: 2WD
GRID: 4
CLIMATE: warm most of the year, hot and buggy in summer
BEST TIME TO VISIT: anytime
COMMENTS: Located along US98 about a mile east of Canal Point. Very interesting to see all the streets laid out with stop signs and speed limit signs, but no houses or people anywhere. Google Earth has a good overview of the site, with about 50 spots where houses used to be.
REMAINS: US Sugar Commissary, assorted street signs, closed factory buildings, possible foundations or other items out in the weeds
Bryant is a modern ghost town. It was set up by the United States Sugar Corporation to house workers and their families of the Bryant sugar mill, which began production in 1962. The mill closed April 11, 2007 as part of a larger-scale drawback of operations in the area, with approximately 200 jobs lost at the Bryant site. The factory and a few USSC buildings are still there, but the houses and all the people are gone. Submitted by: Jim Pike
