NAME: Goodno COUNTY: Glades ROADS: 2WD GRID: 4 CLIMATE: Hot in Summer BEST TIME TO VISIT: Spring/Winter |
COMMENTS: No residents and remote. On SR 80 between LaBelle and Clewiston. Check the historical museum in LaBelle. Much history of the area including pictures and documentation. Research center is available to the public. REMAINS: 1921 General Store, one house, railroad grade |
In the 1800's E.E. Goodno established a railroad stop for cattle to be boarded on the way to Cuba. A small community sprang up around the stop until the 1926 Hurricane demolished and flooded most homes and drove off the residents. The General Store remained open for a tourist stop until just recently. E.E. Goodno actually made his home on the Fort Thompson site a little bit West of the Store. Look for the historical marker.
