BEST TIME TO VISIT: Fall/Winter/Spring 		COMMENTS: Scattered farm residents. Take SR 60 East from Tampa and turn South on CR 39 towards Lithia Pinecrest. The community is in the vicinity of the Hopewell Baptist Church
REMAINS: McDonald House, Hull House, Hopewell Baptist Church and Cemetery, various cracker style homesteads.
The earliest known settlement in the Hopewell area was the "Turner Plantation". There is little information about this pre-Civil War plantation except to say that when the slaves were free the plantation was divided into smaller homesteads. There is no remnant left. The community was originally known as Callsville in 1870. J.R. McDonald is credited with changing the name to Hopewell. He also donated the land for the Hopewell Church and Cemetery. Callsville had a post office from 1883- 1884 with George W. Wells as postmaster. Now the entire area is mainly citrus groves. Pioneer names are McDonald, Hull, Wiggin, Cassels.
