REMAINS: Several things

The earliest settler in the La Crosse area was John A. Cellon, who came here from Lacrosse Wisconsin around 1830. Richard Parker of Georgia came to the area in 1845. Henry Clay Parker, Richard's son, became the leading businessman and landowner in the 1880's.   Cotton buyer and store owner John Futch became the first postmaster in 1881. The town was incorporated in 1897.  Lacrosse started as a cotton farming community, and by the turn of the century the town had several stores, two cotton gins, and a hotel. Like many cotton towns in the area, the boll weevil devestated the crops and drove the residents away.  Much later, Lacrosse became a vegetable and potato farming community and now maintains a small population.
