"Midland" Located between Crooked Lake and Lake Buffum in Polk County. A turpentinetown, settled between 1855-1899. A settlement of 24 houses averaging sixpersons each, Midland was homesteaded by Daniel Stokes, who bought some 2000acres at 50 cents per acre. His daughter and son-in law, Gladys and WillisRhoden, in 1974 had possession of a marriage certificate, the joining ofRhoden's mother and father, Aaron and Margaret Hill Rhoden, October 21,1888, performed in Midland.In 1974, few tombstones remained. Little, if nothing, left today.Directions:Hwy 27 South from Lake Wales. Right turn on St. Rd. 98 towards Ft. Meade, goapproximately 3 miles. Right on Rhoden-Meyer Road.
