In the late 1800's Windsor attracted many residents to the shore of Newnans Lake. It was considered a sister city to Gainesville. There was talk of the railroad coming through and the Eastern Florida Seminary being built there. A bridge across Newnan's Lake was being considered. The railroad did not materialize and the seminary was built in Gainesville. The bridge never got past the planning stages and the town started to disappear. With the two freezes that destroyed the orange grove the town died. There is a renewal of residents coming back renovating the old stately homes that were left on the lakeshore.
