COMMENTS:
A few current residents. REMAINS: Although it is mostly just a small collection of trailer houses, there are still several of the old company houses that were built in the early 1920's. |
Once a coal mining camp, the town today claims a small cluster of homes and a few shade trees on a dirt road. Named after Fletcher J. Allison who acquired the property in 1897, he and a partner worked the mine until 1917. The property was then sold to the Diamond Coal Company and it became a company-owned town. Employees lived in three and four-room houses supplied with water and electricity. The company also furnished recreational facilities in the form of tennis courts and a company sponsored baseball team. Today, the town has a population of around five hundred, a company store, post office and a school. Courtesy Henry Chenoweth. |
