CLAIRMONT

NAME: Clairmont
COUNTY: Catron
ROADS: 2WD
GRID #(see map): 7
CLIMATE: Mild winter, warm summer
BEST TIME TO VISIT:
Spring, winter, fall
COMMENTS: Never a really big town
REMAINS: Two sturdy log cabins and a corral.

Clairmont was a mining camp as early as 1822 but never measured up to expectations. It survived until the late 1880s never becoming much more than a supply center for roving prospectors. At the site of the one time mining camp beside Copper Creek are two sturdy log cabins and a corral.
