Copper City is not only gone, its exact location is in doubt. All that is known about the town that once had a population of five hundred residents is that it had a thirty-ton smelter and was able to produce a daily carload of copper. Copper City was founded sometime during the 1880s and supported a school, hotel, stores and the usual number of saloons. Records show a post office was established in 1883 and discontinued in 1890 indicating Copper City was here today and gone tomorrow.Courtesy Henry Chenoweth. |
