Globe. Former community 12 mi nw of Carlsbad on at&sf rr between Avalon and McMillan dams. Named for the Globe Mills and Mining Co, which mined gypsum and made it into plasterboard, operating here from 1915 to 1923. Globe had a post office during that period. Submitted by: Samuel W McWhorter
