HAGAN

NAME: Hagan
COUNTY: Sandavol
ROADS: 2WD
GRID #(see map): 4
CLIMATE: Hot summers; cooler winters
BEST TIME TO VISIT:
Not when it's raining.
COMMENTS: To get to Coyote and Hagan, take I-25 north from Albuquerque to the San Felipe exit. Turn east and go straight east through the casino parking lot. Coyote is about 10 miles ahead. Look for the "Diamond Tail Ranch" driveway. Coyote is about a mile more down the road on the left hand side just before the road starts going down into the arroyo. Continue east for another 3.5 miles to
Hagan.
REMAINS: Only a few old foundations and crumbing adobe walls.

Hagan began in 1902 with the discovery of coal. The mining camp didn't really start to grow until the train came in 1924. With this, the town grew and had a power plant, restaurants, mercantile store, hotel, and other businesses. Of course, mining towns died when the ore ran out. When the coal ran out, so did the residents of Hagan. After world war II, the was practically no one left. If you are searching for the site, don't bother looking for any trees - there aren't any. Also, don't try in the rain - the arroyos are too numerous in the area. Like a lot of ghost towns, this one is on private property. One can get a good look from the fence, though.
