NAME: Tomerlin COUNTY: Luna ROADS: 2WD GRID: 1 CLIMATE: Cold to mild winters; Hot summers BEST TIME TO VISIT: Fall |
COMMENTS:
About a mile south of a tethered blimp that searches the border sky for planes carting drugs. Road used to be a railroad grade. Torn up in early half of 20th century. REMAINS: Cans, bricks, rubble. |
Might have had a post office. Served railroad and local ranching. The lumber for the White House Ranch, owned by Omar Gibson circa 1900, was unloaded at Tomerlin and then wagoned a few miles east to ranch site. Tomerlin's railroad history ended in the 1920's with the end of the train tack which connected Deming, NM with Hermanas, NM. I have never seen Photographs of Tomerlin or run into anyone who new much about it. On the USGS quad, there is a Tomerlin Draw which runs close to the Tomerlin site. Submitted by: Ken Crosby |
