Bothwick was a stage station on the Lane City-Hunter stage line from 1877to the early 1880s. William Botha built the station and constructed the Bothwick Toll Road. Botha made quite a bit of money during the Hunter boom of the 1871s. But all that came to a halt when Botha was killed by Indians. Because of the excellent location, families moved to Botha Creek once the Indian troubles had ceased. A school was built and homes were constructed for a number of families. The small settlement lasted until the 1940s and by 1950 Botha Creek was empty. Only the stone foundation of Botha’s station and ruins of old homesteads remain along the banks of Botha Creek.
