COMMENTS: Interesting country. REMAINS: Mill. |
Silver ore was first discovered here in 1918. The Buckingham Mining Company was organized in 1919 and was active during the 1920s and 1930s. A small camp formed but most of the company’s employees lived in Copper Basin. In 1926 a mill was constructed that employed 15 men. In June 1929 all the mining companies in the district consolidated and the Buckingham Mines Corporation was formed. The ore supply unexpectedly began to diminish and the mill closed in 1930. The mines were worked on and off during the following years with the last activity taking place in 1970. The substantial remains of the mill are still left at the mine.
