CLINTON

NAME: Clinton
COUNTY: Lander
ROADS: 4WD
GRID: 1
CLIMATE: Hot summer, cool winter.
BEST TIME TO VISIT: Anytime.
COMMENTS: Interesting country.
REMAINS: Stone Ruins.

Some promising silver deposits were discovered during the summer of 1863. For a while, prospects for Clinton looked very good. Numerous mines began operating yielding ore assayed at $1,000 per ton. Clinton, however, faded quickly as the ore deposits ran out. When the post office closed in December of 1864, the small camp began to empty. No activity has taken place since. Only some stone ruins mark the site.
