COMMENTS: Revitalized in WWII REMAINS: A few ruins. |
Rich silver ore was the reason for Danville. Discovered in 1866, nothing was done until 1870 when almost thirty miners started working the area. Operations continued until January 1, 1882 and only five people were left in the camp. But prospectors made a new discovery in 1883 and Danville came to life until 1884 when operations came to a stop. Danville was a ghost town until 1909 when another attempt was made. This lasted until 1914. Danville again became a ghost town until the outbreak of World War II when needed minerals revitalized the area once again. The last shipment or ore from Danville was in 1949. Nobody tried to mine the district again. Danville’s remains are scant. Along with a few ruins scatter along the canyon, a carefully crafted stone ruin is left. It appears to have been made of sandstone, and each stone is precisely cut and fitted.
