GOLD HITT

NAME: Gold Hitt
COUNTY: Esmeralda
ROADS: 4WD
GRID: 4
CLIMATE: Snow in winter, mild in summer.
BEST TIME TO VISIT:
Summer.
COMMENTS: Gold Hitt is located down a 4 wheel drive road about 10 miles southwest of Basalt in the White Mountains. The jeep trail was a lot of fun but nothing remains of the old townsite. There is a newer cabin that fellow off road enthusiasts maintain but it has no historical signifigance.
REMAINS: Nothing.

In the early 1900's Gold Hitt emergered as the silver boom took hold of the state. The town was plotted in 1905, and within a month over 200 people resided within the district.
By 1906 the town boasted several saloons, a livery stable, stores and a restaurant.
By 1907 the mines were no longer produceing profitable ore and the town shut down.
A brief attempt to reopen the mines in 1915 produced little and the district has been quiet ever since.
