GWEENAH

NAME: Gweenah
COUNTY: Lander
ROADS: 4WD
GRID: 1
CLIMATE: Hot summer, cool winter.
BEST TIME TO VISIT: Anytime.
COMMENTS: Interesting country.
REMAINS: Mine Dumps

In February,1908 the Watt mine was discovered and a small tent camp sprang up next to the nearby camp of Skookum. The Gweenah boom was short lived but during 1909 the two camps had a combined population of 200. While Gweenah folded the next year, the Gweenah mine continued to produce until the late teens. The town did not exist long enough for any permanent structure to be constructed, and so today only mine dumps mark the site.
