Sam Mosier came to White Pine in the early 1870s and acquired a large tract of land east of Ely, and Mosiers ranch was born. Mosier gained fame as a breeder of racehorses who were big winners at racetracks in Reno and California. The ranch has had many owners over the years and was active until recent times. Today a number of crumbling ranch buildings remain a Mosiers.
