RAY

NAME: Ray
COUNTY: Nye
ROADS: 2WD
GRID: 1
CLIMATE: Hot summer, cool winter.
BEST TIME TO VISIT: Anytime.
COMMENTS: Worth the trip
REMAINS: Many remnants.

Ray lasted from 1901 to 1904 with very little accomplished in between. In February 1902 miners discovered ore assaying at $240 a ton. Soon almost 200 miners came to the area to work the new mines. There were a number of different mining companies in Ray each working and hoping their claims would be the ones to make Ray a permanent community. But all the flurry of activity produced very little and by the late 1940s the end had come to Ray. In addition to the mine ruins, several buildings stand along the canyon road.
