Taft was one of a number of many Spring Valley post offices located at various ranches during a fifty-year period. As one ranch achieved prominence, the local post office was moved there to stay until another ranch was deemed more worthy or the host ranch grew tired of the responsibility. The Taft post office opened on February 21, 1909 and closed on April 19, 1917. The school for Spring Valley was located here and still stands. It was open until recent times but has now outlived its usefulness.
