TELLURIDE

NAME: Telluride
COUNTY: Lander
ROADS: 4WD
GRID: 1
CLIMATE: Hot summer, cool winter.
BEST TIME TO VISIT: Anytime.
COMMENTS: Recent Activity.
REMAINS: Scant ruins.

Although there had been mining activity as early as 1875, the district was abandoned until 1911 when the camp of Telluride was formed. The camp was formed because of the discovery of the Dollar Mine. The mine was at an altitude of 7,500 feet and presented extreme difficulties in transporting the ore. Even though the site had several stores and a saloon, the difficulty of access prevented the camp from further development. The mine was abandoned in 1912 and by summer Telluride had joined the ghosts.
