Fifteen people lived at the remote camp and supplies were brought in from Battle Mountain. Trenton was originally a silver mining camp beginning in 1869. But silver mining was not very successful. The mine was active until 1940 but very little ore was actually produced. Then, in 1940, Manganese was discovered. The Black Rock Manganese Mine produced $300,000 before closing in 1947. Today, mine dumps and mill ruins remain in Trenton Canyon.
