The town was named after a prominent German family who arrived in Philadelphia in 1833, bought a covered wagon and traveled to eastern Ohio. When the federal government offered inexpensive land in northwestern Ohio 1837, the family headed west. Today, the town is marked by the Zion Lutheran Church with a pointed steeple 100 feet high, a few farms, a cemetery, and six or seven homes. Submitted by Henry Chenoweth.
