REMAINS: General Store and School
When the Standing Rock Reservation was opened for settlement, many progressive farmers and ranchers settled in Corson County, north of Isabel, South Dakota. Among them was John Huseboe. He built a general merchandise store, which was know as Huseboe. He and his family had living quarter’s upstairs over the store. This is now the home of the Mains brothers. Huseboe School was located a short distance north of the store. Some of the early teachers were: Pearl Blackstone, Blanche Njos, Minda Peterson, and Edna Mader. This school became a community Center, where township elections and meetings were held. A community club was organized and here the people of the community met for entertainment, fellowship and religious services. Submitted by: Ryan
