KOHRVILLE

NAME: Kohrville
COUNTY: Harris
ROADS: 2WD
GRID: 4
CLIMATE: Hot and humid summer
BEST TIME TO VISIT: Anytime
COMMENTS: Schoolhouse was moved to the Klein Museum complex.
REMAINS: Cemetery, schoolhouse. UPDATE: I wanted to update Kohrville. Though the cemetery is still there, it will be moved. The descendants of the original freed slaves who settled there are being moved off the land. I am not sure when this happening, but I grew up within minutes of the area and had friends who descended from the original inhabinants. Last week, I was driving by the cemetery and everything was still in tact. As far as I can tell, it's destruction is only a well-regarded rumor - Jessie Rats
Former slaves settled here after the Civil War in what was originally called "The Bottoms". In the 1870's German immigrants Paul and Agnes Tautenhahn Kohrmann opened a general store on what is now 249 and the community became known as Kohrville. Town eventually disappeared into the overlapping development of Houston and Cypress. Submitted by: Daniele Moore
