The first gold strike in Republic was in February, 1896. By the first of May that year, the town had a name and a newspaper. By fall, there were fifty log and canvas cabins, two hotels, four restaurants, five stores, three livery stables and a host of other businesses. By 1900, the growth of Republic was in the direction of brothels and saloons, the latter numbering up to twenty-eight. The dominant structure today is the old Church of the Immaculate Conception. The edifice stands on a steep hillside and can be seen for miles around. Submitted by Henry Chenoweth.

This is the last one, of Republic Wa from the hill on the north side of town overlooking the main street. I am also enclosing one of Sherman pass after the White Mt fire a few years ago.
